| | Lubbock is a windy city. Today was really, really windy. When I drove this morning to school, all I could see was brown dust in the air and the green trees shaking like a dog after a bath. You know what sucked about this - I washed my car last saturday. I don't wash my car often - it doesn't get dirty and I don't have the habit of washing my car. Well, I washed it, and gave it a lot of work. It looked shiny and great, but then this morning it was windy. To make matters worse, it rained hard yesterday - so there are a lot of puddles, and my car gets wet, and all the dust sticks to the car. Now, my car is dirty, around 450 times more dirty than what it was last Saturday. I look like a redneck now - I just need a confederate flag and something like I HAVE A HEMI on my bumper. I'll be graduating in May - and I'll have some people coming over, mostly family. I hope that Lubbock will be really, really windy that day - because I'd be proud of it. I'd say that I sailed through Lubbock for two years, but there was not any water. I'd then laugh and then my right shoelace would come off. And when I bend down to tie my right shoelace, a squirrel would come by. I would then realize i barely see squirrels in Lubbock. There are much more squirrels in the east. IT's hard to believe that I'm going back to DC in the fall. There will be a lot of squirrels, and I'm ready to chew on some sunflower seeds in front of them - and tell them to get a job and stop crawling up other trees and causing trouble. But, yeah, my car is dirty. Should I wash it this Saturday again? It'll just get dirty again. But, that kind of thinking is dangerous - before I know it, my car will be as covered as that stupid Enterprise rental commerical where the car is completely covered in something like brown shopping bags. When I was a child, I thought - how in the heck can the driver see? I thought that it might be a method of hunting deer - because you can't swerve in time. Here, it is so windy that when i roll down the window, and I'm going only 5 miles per hour, my hair gets blown as if I'm driving on the freeway. It makes me scared, and I've wept. but then the dust comes on my face, and it sticks to my face. i took a shower yesterday, and now i'm dirty. maybe i just shouldn't take a shower. I went to Mexico City for my break week a few weeks ago. It was an excellent time. I would reccomend it definitly, but be sure to be there for more than a week so you can get to know how to use the subway, the areas, the restaurants, etc. It reminds me a lot of DC. I've been playing basketball with the students lately, and it's pretty competitve. my right toe is cracked due to the players slamming their sneakers into my toes. it's an enjoyable sport - one that i have not appreciated fully until the recent weeks. but you can't play basketball outside. becuase when you shoot, the ball goes right - due to the wind. the famous lubbock winds. so, you have to angle your shoot for it to go a little left, and you get the hang of it. the problem - when you play in an indoor court, the ball sails to the glass and bounces and hits a nasal nose and wells it up with blood. ah, i better go to bed. i only have one class tomorrow - so it is a chill day. i'm really fixin to get myself a big, juicy burger tomorrow night. oh yeah. none for the squirrels. i'm not letting a speck of dust get on my burger. |
