There are many different kinds of "Christian" out there. Even those who do not go to church know this. Let me give you a quick blog of what kind of Christian I am - off the top of my head. If any of you have watched the movie, "Jesus Camp" - I'm not that kind of Christian. I don't believe that we need to speak in tongues or perform miracles. I don't believe that because the purpose of speaking in tongues and miracles have already been achieved. They are to build up the young church, and to prove that the apostles truly had the power of God in them. Today, we have the Bible to guide us in all things, and the Bible is proven eyewitness account of the miracles of past - so there is no use in the speaking of tongues or miracles. There are many churches who say that the power of miracles is still present today. I'm not convinced. You never see in the newspaper, "Deaf man healed" or "Man healed of AIDS at church". There's always comments and claims, but there's nothing to tie it down. In the Bible, in the book of Acts, there are many miracles that are beyond comphresion. There are accounts of men crippled all their lives, and known by the community - but suddenly being able to walk again. There are people who died, but was raised from the dead. There was such a public spectale, and it was always amazing. Today, you don't see that in those churches who claim to be able to heal the blind and raise the dead. Some believe that deafness is a disease of the Devil, and that they should be healed of it. I believe that Deafness is a gift to me from God, and that I am blessed to be Deaf so I can infulence other Deaf people to become Christians. God makes us deaf, God makes us blind, and God makes us handicapped. It is His decision. I'm not an evangelical Christian - those who would rather keep thier children homeschooled and try to lobby Congress. I'm just a simple, down-to-earth Christian - one who is concerned about preaching the gospel to the lost in my hometown. I'm also focused on Gallaudet University, where I am going this fall. I don't have time to worry about Congress - I already have enough to worry as it is. I believe into being in the world like Christ was - and that means not seperating myself from the "nasty sinners" - but being friends with them and hoping that they can change their ways to glorify God. I believe that homosexuality is a sin. It is not my belief alone, but it is what God says through the Bible. I'm not prejuidical against gay people, but I'm telling them that it is not what God wanted. It is not natural, it is not what God destined for love and reproduction. Man with man cannot bear children, and it is the same with women. I have a lot of friends who are gay - and I'm not against them as a person. I'm against what they do. It is not an easy position to take - but I'm standing up for Jesus first and foremost. I don't want your money. I just want you in church. There are so many television preachers that say if you sow a seed of 1,000, you will reap ten times more. I'm not into that kind of thing. I just want your body in church, your mind on the scripture, and your soul saved. I want to see you in heaven. That's all I want. I don't have any political agendas or any kind of strategy to glorify myself. I want to glorify God. I don't believe that Genesis is symbolical. I believe that there was an acutal event where Adam and Eve was in the garden of Eden, I believe in the flood, I believe in Abraham, I believe in all of those kind of things. I believe in them because I believe in Christ, and Christ spoke of those things. It is not a joke or a bedtime story - those are real events. What is a joke is the belief that we came from ooze or monkeys. Look at the world - and look at your own complex brain. We are not children of beasts. We are children of a compex and intelligent God. I believe that if you want to be saved, you must hear the gospel. You must believe in the gospel. You must accept Jesus Christ as our savior. You must confess of you sins. You must repent of your old ways. You must be baptized for the forgiveness of sins. And, you must keep on until the end (Rev 2:10). Belief alone won't be enough. You've got to live it and prove to God that you are for real. And that is by living the right lives and bearing the fruit of a Christian. And once you are saved, you are not "always saved". You can fall. But, the good news is that if we walk in the right way, in the light, our sins are consantly forgiven. But once we stop walking in the light, our sins are not consantly forgiven. I believe that people are good. They know what is good. God has put consciences in every one of us. We know what is wrong and right in this world. I believe that all people, deep down inside, really do know that there is a God. I believe that each and every person has the potential to be saved and to be an excellent and humble servant of Christ. But, I also see that many people abandon what is good and seek their own pleasure. Even those kind of people CAN be changed. I don't believe that in the future, Israel will be glorified and that Christ will return and rule for 1,000 years. I believe that the kingdom is already here, that we are stones of the kingdom, and that Christ is King. The church is the kingdom, and we are the kingdom. The kingdom is expanding everyday. That's about all that I want to share today. If you want to know why I believe in those, I'll back it up with scripture. Just e-mail me at alexabenchuchan@yahoo.com. That's the kind of Christian I am - and it is not because I chose to be this kind of Christian. It is because I try my best to follow exactly what the Bible expects out of us, and not what man expects out of us. May God's name be glorified. |
